Wind River Wild Horse Sanctuary

Stopping in on eco-sanctuary sponsored by the BLM in the Wind River Reservation. Nearly 250 horses live in 700 acres spread out across multiple rotated pastures. Herds are all geldings, many of which were from the same HMAs and who came together. These horses have both neck freeze brands (BLM), and sanctuary hip brands to identify the horses. We were told intervention is at a minimum, though if a horse is in need of a trim or other issue, they will be tranquilized and cared for. The horses all looked to be in very good condition. Our tour guide said she often gives 3-4 tours a day, and the eco-sanctuary is a popular destination. Fee was $45 per adult for 45 minute tour in a UTV.
